Recognising our Outstanding Postdocs 2022!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time to announce the 2022 Outstanding Postdoc nominations! And 68 days until Christmas if you were interested….!

We first launched our postdoc recognition scheme back in Postdoc Appreciation Week 2020 and it sits within a wider programme of events to celebrate Postdoc Appreciation Week, which happens each year in late September.

We launched the nomination initiative as a way to encourage staff and students to send a brief note of thanks to a postdoc that supports them, inspires them and as a way to recognise the outstanding contributions that our postdocs make to research, our university and the wider community. We’re now on our third year of nominations and I can truly say it’s become one of my favourite parts of the year.

We had an incredible 164 nominations this year and you can read the full nominations here. I would fully recommend having a good read-through as they highlight just how amazing our postdocs are and the outstanding impact they have! As always, thank you to those who nominated a postdoc, we would not be able to run this initiative without your contributions to it and I’ve had several emails saying how appreciated the nomination was.

If you missed this initiative or know someone not eligible who you would like to recognise for their work or support please consider using this as a prompt to reach out. It’s nice to have a designated moment to do this but I’d really encourage you to regularly give thanks and recognition where it is due. It’s easy to feel like a person may know they are appreciated or be aware of the positive impact that they have but a short email can mean a lot to someone. So if a PGR, technical staff member, writing group member, lab colleague etc. has made your day (or perhaps saved your day!) please take a moment to thank them! Also, don’t forget The Deal is in place to recognise and reward members of staff, so please consider if that avenue would also be appropriate.
